EEC 2026 & EMECR 2026 will take place from 11 to 13 May 2026 in Milan, Italy, bringing together two major international conferences: the 14th European Electric Steelmaking Conference (EEC 2026) and the 5th International Conference on Energy and Material Efficiency and CO₂ Reduction in the Steel Industry (EMECR 2026).
Electric steelmaking and conference focus
The 14th European Electric Steelmaking Conference (EEC 2026) will cover a wide range of topics related to the production of steel using electric arc furnaces (EAFs) and other electric-based processes. Steel manufacturers and producers, equipment suppliers and technology providers, researchers and academics, policymakers and regulators, environmental consultants, industry analysts, and investors will meet to share knowledge and best practices, identify new research areas and collaboration opportunities, and develop strategies to address industry challenges while promoting sustainable and efficient electric steelmaking practices.
EMECR conference background and evolution
The International Conference on Energy and Material Efficiency and CO₂ Reduction in the Steel Industry (EMECR) was first held in 2011 in Germany, followed by subsequent editions in the UK in 2014, Japan in 2017, and Brazil in 2022. Thanks to these successful events, EMECR has become a recognised international forum for high-level discussions on environmental topics, including CO₂ reduction, material efficiency, circular economy approaches, and product life cycle management across the global steel industry.
Conference topics, exhibition, and networking
EEC & EMECR 2026 will address the full spectrum of technologies, processes, and strategies shaping the future of electric steelmaking and sustainable steel production. Key topics include electric arc furnace (EAF) technologies, ladle metallurgy, secondary refining, induction and high-temperature furnaces, as well as automation, digitalisation, artificial intelligence, and machine learning for process optimisation. The conference will also focus on energy efficiency, raw material optimisation—including scrap, DRI, HBI, and pig iron—environmental sustainability, CO₂ reduction, life cycle assessment, circular economy practices, and by-product management. Additional sessions will cover safety, workforce development, market trends, policy frameworks, and emerging ironmaking technologies such as hydrogen-based processes, CCS/CCU, and renewable energy integration in the steel industry.
Companies interested in exhibiting or sponsoring the event can find detailed information about exhibition opportunities and sponsorship packages on the conference website
A joint event for electric steelmaking and sustainability
Organised by the Italian Association for Metallurgy (AIM) in collaboration with Siderweb – The Italian Steel Community, EEC & EMECR 2026 represent a key meeting point for steel producers, technology suppliers, researchers, policymakers, and sustainability experts. The 2026 edition focuses on electric arc furnace steelmaking, energy efficiency, emissions reduction, and innovative processes supporting the transition of the steel industry. EEC 2026 & EMECR 2026 will be jointly held by AIM, together with Siderweb FORUM.
