About Europacable
Founded in 1991, Europacable serves as the voice of Europe's leading wire, cables, and cable accessories manufacturers. This non-profit association represents a diverse membership, from global technology leaders to specialized small and medium-sized businesses across Europe. Its core mission is to empower Europe's sustainable electrification and digitalization, playing a pivotal role in shaping EU policy debates related to the industry. Europacable's members collectively employ over 80,000 people and generated a worldwide turnover exceeding €70 billion in 2023, underscoring their significant economic contribution and technological leadership. Europacable is registered in Belgium and operates under the governance of an Executive Board, ensuring strict adherence to EU Competition rules.
Enabling Europe's Infrastructure
Europacable's members provide essential high-quality, sustainable power and telecommunication cables that form the backbone of modern European infrastructure. For Energy Infrastructure, this includes HVDC cables up to 600 kV for long-distance transmission, EHV AC cables up to 500 kV for grid extensions and renewable integration, and various low and medium voltage cables up to 36 kV for distribution networks, smart grids, and industrial applications. In Communication Infrastructure, the focus is on energy-efficient optical fibre cables for high-speed broadband networks, alongside traditional copper cables for maintenance and data cables for data centers and smart premises. Furthermore, their offerings extend to Building, Mobility, and Industrial Applications, providing specialized cables for electrifying and digitizing buildings, supporting autonomous and electric vehicles, and enabling Industry 4.0 with robust power, control, and data transmission solutions.
Commitment to Sustainability and Safety
Europacable is deeply committed to supporting its members' efforts in addressing climate change and preserving resources. This commitment is articulated through four pillars: Climate (striving for net-zero emissions, aligning with EU Taxonomy), Circularity (promoting efficient design, recycling, and material reuse), Substances (ensuring compliance with RoHS and REACH regulations), and Supply Chain (advocating for responsible sourcing and ethical practices). The association also champions fire safety through the Construction Products Regulation (CPR), promoting the use of high-quality, low fire hazard cables and advocating for effective market surveillance. Europacable actively pushes for policies that enhance the security and resilience of subsea power and telecommunication cables, including 'Security by Design' approaches and a 'European Preference Principle' in public procurement to ensure high-quality, sustainable solutions 'made in Europe for Europe.'
