About the Industrial Fasteners Institute (IFI)
The Industrial Fasteners Institute (IFI) is a prominent trade association established in 1931, initially known as the American Institute of Bolt, Nut, and Rivet Manufacturers. Renamed in 1949, IFI primarily represents North American manufacturers of mechanical fasteners and formed parts, as well as key suppliers to the industry. Located in Independence, Ohio, IFI is an engineering-oriented organization dedicated to addressing the operational concerns and fostering the collective interests of its members. Its vision is to be a globally recognized, North American-focused leader, shaping the future of the fastener industry through collaboration and continuous improvement.

A core offering is its involvement in setting and publishing industry manufacturing standards, collaborating with bodies like SAE, ASTM, ISO, and ASME. The 'Book of Fastener Standards,' now in its 12th edition (2024), compiles 97 commonly used inch and non-ISO metric fastener specifications, available in both hardcover and an always-current online subscription. The 'IFI Technology Connection (ITC)' is a sophisticated web-based tool integrating inch and ISO metric fastener standards, offering lookup databases, conversion tools, technical calculators (e.g., tightening torque, thread strength), and direct access to IFI's technical staff for support.
