About the Arab Iron and Steel Union
The Arab Iron and Steel Union (AISU), established in 1972, stands as the pioneering Arab organization dedicated to the iron and steel sector. Affiliated with the Council of Arab Economic Unity – League of Arab States, AISU operates as a non-governmental entity, devoid of political or commercial agendas. Its permanent General Secretariat is situated in Algeria, supplemented by regional offices to facilitate its extensive operations across the Arab world.
Mission and Scope of Work
AISU's core mission revolves around the growth and development of the iron and steel industry within Arab nations. It serves as a crucial platform for multi-activity companies involved in this sector from various Arab countries. The Union actively fosters cooperation with prominent international and regional organizations, including the World Steel Association, UNIDO, and OECD, alongside its long-standing collaboration with the Council of Arab Economic Unity and the Arab Industrial Development and Mining Organization. This collaborative approach is central to its strategy for global integration and knowledge exchange.
Key Initiatives and Impact
The Union orchestrates a variety of initiatives designed to address industry challenges and promote innovation. These include regular meetings of its Technical and Economic Committees, which convene to discuss critical issues such as customs challenges and technological advancements. A flagship event, the Arab Steel Summit, gathers industry leaders and stakeholders to deliberate on enhancing the Arab steel industry's status, fostering scientific research, and exploring investments in advanced technologies, with a particular focus on strengthening the global position of Arab iron and steel. AISU also champions sustainability, notably through discussions on 'Carbon Neutrality in the Arab Steel Industry', and contributes to human capital development by organizing training programs, such as those in maintenance management for companies like Ezz Dekheila Steel. Furthermore, the Union acknowledges excellence through awards for scientific research in the industry, underscoring its commitment to innovation and progress.
