Company Overview and History
Brunner Manufacturing Co, Inc. is a long-standing domestic manufacturer, established in 1963 in Elroy, Wisconsin, by Ronald E. Brunner. The company initially focused on drilling parts and progressively expanded its capabilities to include cold heading in the 1970s. Celebrating 60 years in business in 2023, Brunner Manufacturing has grown to a team of over 200 members. It operates multiple facilities in Mauston, WI, including its main office, forming plant, and distribution center, alongside a metal finishing facility in Elroy, WI. Since 1991, Brunner has partnered with major OEM companies, serving as a single-source supplier for specialty steel and aluminum components, underscoring its commitment to long-term customer relationships and continuous improvement.
Core Capabilities and Offerings
Brunner Manufacturing specializes in the production of quality custom specialty fasteners, bolts, and clevis pins. A core competency is Near Net Forming and cold forming (or cold heading), processes that yield stronger parts with enhanced grain flow, smooth surfaces, and reduced material waste. The company works with various materials, including carbon steel (e.g., 1008, 1010, 1018, 1038), alloy steel (e.g., 4037, 4140, 8640), stainless steel (e.g., 302, 316), and has mastered forging strong, durable aluminum parts up to 2 inches in diameter. Production capabilities include diameters up to 1 1/8 inches (M30) for steel and lengths up to 10 inches (254mm), with multi-die cold forming and high-speed production up to 300 parts per minute.
Beyond forming, Brunner offers extensive secondary manufacturing processes. These include high-volume, specialized CNC machining, drilling (utilizing 22 high-production cross drilling machines and 11 vertical machining centers), centerless grinding with robotic automation, and press operations (45 to 1500 tons) for flattening, piercing, and bending. The company also provides in-house heat treat and metal finishing services, offering a variety of standard and custom finishes, atmosphere-controlled tempering, and barrel and rack plating. Thread forming capabilities extend up to 1 3/8 inches (M36), leveraging roll forming for increased strength, speed, and material efficiency. An in-house A2LA 1036.01 certified lab ensures product quality, complemented by tool designing and building capabilities for rapid project execution.
