Niehoff celebrates 75 years of innovation in the wire and cable industry

Maschinenfabrik Niehoff marks its 75th anniversary by reinforcing its position as a global leader in machinery for the wire and cable industry. The milestone, celebrated on April 11, 2026, in Schwabach ahead of wire 2026, highlights a long-standing strategy built on continuous innovation, close customer collaboration, and forward-looking technology development.

A milestone reflecting industrial leadership

The anniversary event brought together around 300 international guests from 45 countries, including key players across the wire and cable sector. In his speech, Managing Director Bernd Lohmüller retraced the company’s evolution from its founder Walter Niehoff’s small workshop to a global organization with 1,300 employees.

A consistent message emerged from industry partners: Niehoff stands out for reliability, durability, and engineering excellence. Long-term business relationships are built on trust and performance—critical factors in high-demand production environments.

The strategic importance of cables was also emphasized. From energy transmission—both conventional and renewable—to automotive electrification and AI-driven data centers, Niehoff technologies support essential infrastructure where energy and data flow.

Technology highlights from wire 2026

The anniversary also aligns with the release of NIEHOFF Magazine 1/2026, which outlines the main innovations presented at wire 2026.

Key updates include new multiwire drawing machines for copper and aluminium (MMM 103, MMH 113, MMH 133), RM 163 and RM 203 resistance annealers, and upgrades to the BMV rotary braiding platform with automated bobbin handling and Wire Tension Control (WTC). The NPS double spooler SV 403 D operates at speeds up to 2,400 m/min and integrates inline labeling and traceability systems, including barcode, QR, and RFID.

Further developments focus on service digitalization, with the Lifecycle+ package and the myNIEHOFF platform supporting spare parts management, remote service, and lifecycle operations.

Industry outlook

These developments reflect a broader shift in the wire and cable sector toward higher levels of automation, process control, and digital service integration across production environments.
As production speeds increase and quality requirements become more stringent, solutions such as automated handling, tension control, and integrated traceability are becoming standard across modern wire and cable plants. At the same time, digital service platforms are playing a growing role in supporting uptime, maintenance planning, and lifecycle optimization.
