Company Overview & Heritage
Elektrisola, a global leader in fine and ultrafine enamelled wires, was founded on July 1, 1948, in Eckenhagen, Germany, by Dr. Gerd Schildbach. Building on a legacy of wire drawing innovation, including his father's 1938 world record for the finest wire (0.008 mm), Dr. Gerd Schildbach pioneered in-house developed enameling machine technology. This proprietary process became a cornerstone for the company's rapid international expansion, establishing a significant global footprint with 10 plants across seven countries on three continents and 20 sales offices in 11 countries. The Elektrisola Group is now managed by Dr. Detlef and Dr. Oliver Schildbach, continuing its commitment to identical quality worldwide and localized customer support.
Products and Services
Elektrisola specializes in a diverse range of high-performance wires, offering over 30,000 types of enamelled wire with diameters from 0.008 mm to 0.50 mm. These wires, made from high-purity copper (ETP1, 99.99%) and various alloys, feature insulation types like Polyurethane, Polyesterimide, Polyamidimides, and Polyimides, often combined with self-bonding layers. The company also produces Fully Insulated Wire (FIW), an alternative to Triple Insulated Wires, designed for smaller, more efficient transformers with enhanced windability and solderability, meeting UL, VDE, and IEC standards. A key offering is litz wire, comprising multiple insulated strands, engineered to reduce high-frequency losses (10 kHz to 5 MHz) in applications requiring flexibility. Litz wire variants include basic, taped (e.g., VDE-certified EFOLIT® for reinforced insulation), extruded (e.g., ETFE for electromobility), profiled (square/rectangular for optimal filling factor), served, and Smartbond (self-adhesive) types.
Technical Expertise & Applications
Elektrisola's technical prowess is evident in its continuous innovation, from introducing biconical spools for fine wires to pioneering environment-friendly catalytic enameling oven systems and the EAPC (Elektrisola Active Process Control) for consistent quality. Their products are critical components across numerous sectors. In automotive, they are integral to EV charging systems (On-Board Chargers, Wireless Chargers, Charging Stations), electric traction motors, and interior heating. Industrial applications include Switched Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) and a variety of sensors and antennas (RFID, NFC, inductive proximity switches). The medical field benefits from specialized wires and polyimide tubing, while consumer electronics utilize their wires in SMPS, smart textiles, and wireless chargers. This broad application spectrum highlights Elektrisola's role as a vital supplier of advanced wire solutions.
