ABS expands its EPD portfolio with new environmental declarations for bars and wire rod
ABS continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainability by expanding its portfolio of Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) to include bars and several types of wire rod.
What are EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) and why do they matter
EPDs (Environmental Product Declarations) are documents verified by independent bodies that describe a product's environmental impacts across its entire life cycle (Life Cycle Assessment - LCA), assessing up to 30 impact categories, including CO₂-equivalent emissions, energy consumption, and resource use. Today they represent a key tool for supporting informed and transparent choices along the supply chain:
- provide transparent environmental information;
- support tenders and technical specifications;
- meet the demands of international customers and markets;
- contribute to environmental certifications for buildings, such as LEED and BREEAM;
- enable objective comparison between products;
- offer concrete support for sustainable design.
New ABS EPDs for bar and wire rod products
ABS began its EPD journey in 2023, publishing its first three Environmental Product Declarations dedicated to C80 Wire Rod, Ecogravel®, and Ecogravel® White. The journey continues in May 2026 with the publication of four new environmental declarations dedicated to products for various application sectors.
As of today, ABS's EPD portfolio includes:
- NEW: High-carbon rod
- NEW: Steel rod for nut and bolt production
- NEW: Wire rod for welding applications
- NEW: Steel bars for anchor bolts and tie rods
- C80 Wire
- Ecogravel®
- Ecogravel® White
All ABS EPDs are developed in accordance with ISO 14025:2006, registered within The International EPD System program, and based on an LCA analysis covering the two production plants in Cargnacco (Italy) and Sisak (Croatia).
Through the expansion of its EPD portfolio, ABS confirms its commitment to delivering reliable, verifiable, and comparable environmental information, contributing to greater transparency along the value chain and supporting customers in achieving their sustainability goals. For more information >>
