ABS inaugurates the world's largest wire rod mill

The new ABS high automation rolling mill - in the city of Cargnacco, Udine, Italy, is at the starting line.

The plant has already been referred to as "the largest wire rod mill in the world" and is expected to set the new gold standard in terms of production quality, technological innovation and 4.0 industry.

500 meters long, with a net surface of 65 thousand square meters and 160 highly specialized employees, the new rolling mill will produce 500 thousand tons per year of special steels with diameters ranging between 5 and 25 mm. The company estimates its turnover will be approximately 200 million euros. The project, brought to completion after 18 months of hard work and costing a record of 190 million euros, makes this production site the only one in Europe capable of producing the entire range of steel products from 5 to 850 mm.

The new ABS rolling mill is only the latest achievement of Danieli - owner of the company since 1988. The Group has already announced a new round of investments of 400 million euros aimed at improving the efficiency and upgrading the technology of the other plant in Cargnacco and the one in Croatia as well.

The steel making company ABS was established in 1988, by the merging of two well-known Italian steel companies, Officine Bertoli and Acciaierie Safau. Ever since its inception, ABS has been dedicated to the production of a wide range of special steels.
