Company Overview & History
Abtrex Industries, established in 1969, has evolved from a local metal and chemical industry supplier into a global expert in corrosion and abrasion control. With over five decades of experience, the company is dedicated to protecting assets and the environment through its specialized linings, coatings, and fabrication services. Abtrex operates with a strong commitment to quality and safety, evidenced by its ISO 9001:2015 certification and memberships with industry associations like the Association of American Railroads (AAR M-1002 and M-1003 for railcar divisions). The company maintains numerous strategically located bases of operation across the United States, North America, Europe, and the Middle East, serving clients worldwide.
Core Expertise: Linings and Coatings
Abtrex Industries specializes in time-tested corrosion and abrasion-resistant linings and coatings. As an approved applicator for Blair Rubber Company (Goodyear), Polycorp (B.F. Goodrich), and RubberSource (Uniroyal), Abtrex offers a comprehensive portfolio of rubber linings, including soft natural rubber, chlorobutyl, bromobutyl, semi-hard, and hard compounds. These are engineered for chemical resistance and abrasion protection in applications such as chemical storage tanks, industrial water treatment vessels, FGD systems, mining equipment (slurry pipelines, pumps, chutes, hydrocyclones, ball mills), and railcar interiors. The company also provides industrial ceramic linings, utilizing materials like Nitride Bonded Silicon Carbide and Direct Sintered Silicon Carbide, for extreme abrasion, erosion, or corrosion in environments like mining and mineral processing. A wide range of protective coatings for steel and other materials further enhances their offerings, designed for durability and long-term performance.
Specialized Fabrication Services
Abtrex provides extensive fabrication capabilities across various materials. Their steel and alloy fabrication services encompass carbon steel, high-strength low alloy, 300 series stainless steel, duplex stainless steels, and Canadian steel plate, producing custom components and tanks for diverse industrial needs. The company also excels in Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP) fabrication, utilizing epoxy, polyester, and vinyl ester resins with various fiberglass types (chopped strand mat, woven roving, Nexus Veil, C Veil). FRP products include pipes (2" to 60" diameter, rated for 25 PSI to 150 PSI with safety factors of 10:1 internal and 5:1 external pressure), fittings (flanges, reducers, elbows, tees, crosses, laterals), tanks, scrubbers, and custom specialty items. Additionally, Abtrex offers PVC and polypropylene fabrication, employing state-of-the-art butt-welders and bending/edging machines for custom tanks and equipment, often including leak detection systems.
Engineering and Emergency Support
Abtrex Industries possesses complete design and build engineering capabilities, leveraging 100+ years of combined industry experience among its sales engineers, designers, and project managers. They utilize industry-standard 3D modeling software like Dassault Systemes Solidworks, Siemens Unigraphics PLM, and Autodesk AutoCAD for product design, custom development, retrofits, and reverse engineering. To ensure continuous operation for its clients, Abtrex offers 24-hour nationwide emergency response crews, available seven days a week. These cross-functional field service technicians are trained in fabrication, linings, and coatings, providing rapid mobilization for emergency tank repairs, strip and re-lines, and other urgent situations globally.
Industrial Solutions & Rentals
Beyond its core lining and fabrication, Abtrex offers integrated solutions for industrial water treatment systems, functioning as a one-stop-shop for design, manufacture, rubber lining, and repair of custom pressure vessels. The company has invested in advanced manufacturing equipment, including a DAVI high-end 8’ plate roller machine and a Lincoln Electric CNC plasma metal cutting machine capable of cutting steel, aluminum, and stainless steel up to 1” thick, as well as a high-pressure waterjet stripper. Furthermore, Abtrex provides rental services for trailered industrial HVAC and power generation units, featuring 80-ton cooling, heating, and dehumidification HVAC units, coupled with a 320 kW WhisperWatt portable powerhouse generator with a 500-gallon diesel tank for up to 24 hours of runtime at maximum power.
Training & Facilities
Abtrex Industries operates multiple facilities, including a 55,000 sq ft plant in South Bend, IN (housing fabrication, rubber lining with a 12’x60’ autoclave, paint, polypropylene, and sandblast areas) and a 12,000 sq ft facility in Mobile, AL (for rubber lining and fiberglass fabrication, with a 9’x33’ autoclave). Its Cleveland, TX plant is a dedicated railcar linings and rehabilitation complex, with the capacity to work on up to 50 cars simultaneously indoors. In addition, Abtrex runs a School of Welding at its South Bend, IN location, offering a range of 8-week welding courses (WELD 100, 108, 206, 207, 208, 272, 273) with small class sizes, hands-on training, and certification preparation for various welding processes.
