Company Overview and History
Peter Greven is an international corporate group specializing in oleochemicals, with a history spanning over 100 years. Founded in 1923 as a local soap factory, the family-owned company has evolved significantly, transitioning from soap production to manufacturing fat chemical additives and derivatives. Today, it operates with production sites in Germany (Bad Münstereifel), the Netherlands (Venlo), Malaysia (Penang, through a joint venture with IOI), and the US (Helena, Arkansas, via Norac Additives). The group also maintains sales offices in France and the US, serving customers in over 85 countries worldwide.
Products and Services
The company's core business involves the production of metal soaps, alkaline soaps, esters, and dispersions, which find application across diverse industrial sectors. Metal soaps, such as those under the LIGASTAR®, LIGAMED®, and LIGAPHOB® brands, are utilized as stabilizers, hydrophobing agents, and for their lubricating and separating effects in industries like plastics, rubber, and building protection. Alkaline soaps, including sodium and potassium stearates/oleates, are water-soluble and used in various technical and life science applications. Esters, marketed under the LIGALUB® and ESTOLUB® lines, are crucial as base oils for biolubricants, industrial oils (gear, high-temperature chain), and sustainable coolants, with specific formulations for marine applications. Dispersions, like LIGAFLUID® calcium stearate dispersions, are offered in liquid form for applications such as paper coating and building materials. The product portfolio also includes LIGAFOOD® additives for the food industry and LIGAFEED® for animal feed.
Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation
Peter Greven demonstrates a strong commitment to sustainability, evidenced by its comprehensive climate protection strategy, which includes ambitious net-zero emission targets for its sites and the entire group. The company actively participates in initiatives like the Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI), the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi), and the Forum for Sustainable Palm Oil (FONAP), alongside holding various certifications such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 50001, and RSPO. Their R&D efforts focus on developing sustainable solutions, including bio-based and biodegradable products, and improving the environmental footprint of their operations.
