The history of the ifm Group began in 1969, the year ifm electronic was founded. Today, ifm develops, manufactures, and markets sensors, controllers, software, and systems for industrial automation worldwide, as well as SAP-based solutions for supply chain management and shop floor integration. With its extensive product portfolio and its experience as a pioneer of Industry 4.0, ifm is able to design and implement proven solutions to digitalize the entire value chain—from the sensor level to the ERP system.
Today, ifm has a physical presence in 95 countries (while offering products and services in 165, serving 155,000 customers), employs over 8,750 people, generates consolidated revenues of €1.37 billion (as of fiscal year 2022), and holds 1,170 original patents. These figures demonstrate that the Group is a leading global industrial company, having achieved its growth by skillfully combining international scope and innovative strength with the flexibility and customer proximity typical of a medium-sized enterprise.
ifm maintains a strong connection with Germany and its industrial landscape: its headquarters are located in Essen, while more than two-thirds of its product portfolio are developed and manufactured at its production site on the shores of Lake Constance. Also in Germany, in the city of Siegen, stands SUMMIT—the state-of-the-art technology center where a team of over 400 specialists from within the Group works to develop forward-looking ideas and implement successful solutions.
